"When the holidays arrive, you like to water the flower-beds of your memories and sincerely yearn for your lost family homes. Don't be foolish or sentimental. Learn to bear your own destiny. Know that your motherland is not... the whole country, and may blood fill your cheeks with an invigorating blush at the redeeming and powerful thought that your motherland is you yourselves!
Has a person ever dwelled anyplace other than in himself? You are in your own home whether you find yourself in Argentina or Canada, because your motherland is not a place on a map, but the vital essence of a person. Today you no longer live in Poland, but because of that Poland has taken up residence more powerfully in you-that Poland, that should be described as your deepest human essence created by the labor of generations."
This is what Gombrowicz wrote about the Polonia some years ago. Love for your country, maintaining your Polish traditions and national culture, the activities of Polish parishes and other polonian organizations, as well as many other efforts made by our fellow countrymen living in the United States resulted in their not succumbing to total assimilation. In spite of the constant processes of integration, they were able to retain their identity and pride in their Polish heritage. This page will carry interesting information and materials pertaining to the American Polonia. We will also include information (links) about the Polonia that we find in other servers. A complete list of the collected materials can be found on our web pages.
